Lombardi Ranch

I love the end of summer. For one thing it means cooler weather is just around the corner...hopefully, it means kids are back in school, but best of all it means that much of my favorite produce is in season.

At Lombardi Ranch, known to most locals as THE pumpkin patch, one can buy so much more than pumpkins. They have the best tomatoes, corn, squash, peppers and eggplants around. They also sell local peaches, plums and honey. In season tomatoes are so plentiful, that they sell a "lug" (which is about 22 pounds) for just $15 dollars. This year, I hope to can some for use in my pizza and pasta sauces during the winter. I also hope to make some pepper jelly too...

I'm heading out there today to get my weeks worth of delicious goods...maybe this will be the week I steam up my kitchen boiling down 22 pounds of tomatoes...although maybe not. It is supposed to be nearly 100 today. Did I mention something about cooler weather? Hmmmm....maybe by January.
